A scratch in the parquet floor and your good mood is gone. But before you panic: In many cases, the damage can be repaired yourself and without great expense. The right method depends on the depth of the scratch and the surface of your floor.
First check: How deep is the scratch?
Surface scratches:
Only varnish or oil is damaged, the wood is intact.
Light wood scratches:
The wood is minimally scored, but no material has been removed yet.
Deep scratches or dents:
The wood is visibly damaged, material is missing or has been pressed in.
Method 1: Walnut or avocado – for very light scratches
The natural oil in a walnut can visibly reduce superficial scratches on oiled floors. Simply rub the cut surface of the nut in a circular motion over the scratch and let the oil soak in. Only suitable for oiled floors and very fine scratches.
Method 2: Repair waxes and pens
For light to medium scratches on varnished and oiled parquet floors, there are special repair waxes in many wood tones. The paste is worked into the scratch, excess material is removed and polished after drying.
Method 3: Sanding and resealing
For deep scratches, only sanding the affected area and subsequent re-varnishing or re-oiling will help. This provides the most professional result – either as a DIY with a rental sander or by a specialist company.
